How to Evaluate a Custom Crafts OEM Manufacturer

Updated August 28, 2026

A polished sample photograph does not show how a custom manufacturer controls revisions, color, production consistency, packaging or compliance. The most useful supplier evaluation therefore follows the full project path from artwork to shipment.

Use the questions below when sourcing custom resin, soft PVC or metal products.

1. Can the Manufacturer Explain the Process Choice?

Ask why a product should use polyresin, soft PVC, stamping, die casting, printing or another process. A useful recommendation should connect the process to shape, detail, function, finish, quantity and budget.

At TUOYUAN, we state the assumptions used in a quotation when specifications are incomplete.

2. Is the Sample Approval System Clear?

Confirm which stages require approval and how revisions are recorded. A reliable system should distinguish production artwork, structural samples, finished samples, packaging samples and the final golden sample.

Ask what happens if artwork changes after tooling. The answer should identify possible cost and schedule impact instead of implying that every revision is free.

3. Are Quality Standards Specific?

“Strict QC” is not enough. Ask which dimensions, surfaces, colors, assemblies and packaging points will be inspected. For hand-painted resin figurines, confirm how acceptable handcrafted variation will be judged against the approved sample.

For functional metal or PVC products, include attachment strength and intended operation in the inspection plan.

4. Are Compliance Claims Matched to the Product?

Request the actual report scope, tested sample and date. Social audits such as BSCI or SMETA do not replace product testing, and a material report does not automatically cover every finished product.

The destination, user age, material and product function should determine the testing plan.

5. Can Packaging Be Engineered Around the Product?

Ask how fragile projections, painted surfaces, hardware and retail presentation will be protected. For resin figurines, the insert should support strong areas without loading thin details. For metal products, individual separation helps reduce abrasion.

6. Is the Quotation Transparent?

Check whether tooling, samples, unit price, packaging, testing and freight are identified. State quantity per SKU and compare the same specification across quotations.

TUOYUAN supports small-batch trial orders of approximately 200–500 pieces per design or new SKU, subject to project conditions.

7. Is Communication Traceable?

Important approvals should carry dates and version numbers. Confirm one responsible project contact, the approved communication channel and the documents required before production begins.

If confidentiality is required, agree it before sharing sensitive files.

8. Is the Delivery Plan Complete?

A production promise without artwork, sample, inspection, packaging and shipping time is incomplete. Ask for the schedule assumptions and identify the required arrival date—not only the factory ship date.

A Short Evaluation Checklist

  • Material and process recommendation is explained
  • Artwork and revision control is documented

  • Test reports match the relevant sample and scope
  • Packaging is designed around product risk
  • Quote scope is transparent
  • MOQ is confirmed per SKU
  • Delivery plan includes approval and logistics
  • Confidentiality and IP responsibilities are clear
