PVC Patch Design Structures
Three structure directions are usually reviewed before tooling. The choice follows the artwork and how much depth the design actually needs.
2D PVC Patch
2D PVC patches use controlled relief levels and clean color separation, making them suitable for logos, lettering and graphic designs.

Design Guidelines for Clean Molding
Molded PVC reads best when the artwork is prepared for it. These four points are reviewed with every project.
Keep Details Production-Friendly
Very small or very dense elements are reviewed at the artwork stage, because molded detail has limits that graphic artwork does not.
Use Clear Color Separation
Adjacent color areas need a clearly defined boundary so the separation stays readable after molding.
Maintain Adequate Spacing
Elements are given enough space for molding and for clean separation between color areas.
Review Artwork Before Tooling
Line width, spacing, relief level, color boundaries and edge structure are checked together before tooling is prepared.
Minimum line width, minimum spacing and minimum relief height are confirmed per project against the artwork and the selected structure.
PVC Patch Backing Options
Four backing options are available. The backing is selected with the material, weight, intended application and how the patch is attached.
Plain Backing (Sew-on)
A plain back is used for sewn applications and can be developed together with a sewing channel. Typical uses include garments, bags, uniforms, shoes and other sewn applications.
Hook & Loop Backing (Velcro-on)
Hook and loop backing suits removable and repositionable patches, replaceable identification and gear or bag applications where the patch is taken off and reattached.
3M Adhesive Backing
Adhesive backing is intended for flat surfaces and direct adhesive applications in selected promotional uses.
Iron-on Backing
Iron-on backing is developed for compatible fabrics. Application temperature and pressing time should follow the confirmed backing specification for the production batch.

Shape, Edge & Sewing Structure
The outline and the edge are part of the product structure, so they are designed with the backing and the attachment method rather than after them.
Custom Outline
The patch outline follows the approved artwork, including irregular and die-cut shapes.
Border Width
A raised border or a defined color edge can frame the artwork where the design calls for it.
Sewing Channel
A sewing channel can be developed along the edge so a plain-backed patch can be sewn onto a surface.
Attachment Clearance
The edge leaves enough room for the selected attachment method and for the sewing or adhesion area.
Corner Treatment
Corners and narrow points are reviewed so the molded edge stays clean at the outline.
Border width, sewing channel dimensions and edge thickness are confirmed per project.
